About the Book

Shadows in the Eyes is a poetry collection by Miloš Brkić, originally published in Serbian in 2013. As his second book, it continues the lyrical path opened by his debut collection, deepening the atmosphere of intimacy, memory, emotional restlessness, and inner confession.

The poems move through the fragile spaces between love and loss, closeness and distance, what is spoken and what remains hidden within the gaze.

In this collection, the image of the shadow becomes a poetic sign of inner experience — the trace of feeling that remains visible even when words are no longer enough.

From the Review

With a language that is clear, fluid, and pure — as if the poem sings itself with effortless ease — Miloš builds the order of the sentence and shapes the verse, while never neglecting rhythm and metre, sound and resonance, clarity and dimension. In this way, he almost epically defines and extends the poetic image, one filled with painful avant-garde intensity and words that are wise, biblical, and ancient.

Love and tenderness, philosophical questioning and psychological depth, a measure of social pain, innocence and morality, the occasional dedication and offering, a little sea, salt, and summer, an occasional sigh… All of this, in a beautiful form — poetic yet unrhymed, carried by a strong utterance and a powerful artistic expression — brings us, through the young gentleman poet, back into the world of beauty and craft, the world of poetry and literature.
