Poetry – Selected and Other Poems is a comprehensive poetry volume by Miloš Brkić, originally published in Serbian in 2020 under the title Poezija – izabrane i druge pesme. The book brings together selected poems from his earlier collections, along with previously unpublished work.
As a larger poetic selection, it offers a broader view of Brkić’s lyrical development, gathering different phases of his writing into one expanded whole. Across its pages, recurring themes of love, memory, silence, longing, absence, and inner confession appear in different forms and emotional intensities.
This volume serves as an important point of entry into Brkić’s poetry, presenting both the continuity of his poetic voice and the intimate spaces from which his work emerges.
The selection was technically compiled from poetry books which, chronologically speaking, were created between 2012 and 2019, and which, at the time of their publication, were praised, awarded, and translated. After the appearance of the collection When Silence Speaks Because of You, followed only a year later by Shadows in the Eyes, literary critics, connoisseurs, and admirers of lyrical novelty were full of praise, enthusiasm, various recognitions, guest appearances, promotions, public readings, and significant media and publishing attention directed toward the name of Miloš Brkić, then a young poet from Požega. The Other Flower, Words from the Silence, and Framing Reality were the next collections by this author, arriving with a naturally expected inertia, in the continuity of lyrical creation, representing a natural continuation of something already begun, partly seen, and to a great extent expected from him.
New, previously unpublished poems are also included in this book as part of the whole, and they are a fine example of lyrical beauty that captivates, wins over the reader, and remains forever in memory.
All of this gives me the right to recommend, with great satisfaction, this new and substantial poetry volume for printing and publication, for it is of proven literary quality and will bring great reading pleasure to all those who care for fine literature — those whom it makes happy and fills with lasting artistic values, increasingly rare in our lives.
